High Gas Prices Set March State Record

At just under $4 per gallon, there's no sign of price relief at the pump anytime soon.

The current state average of $3.92 per gallon of gas is the highest ever for March, the Chicago Tribune reports. That’s 59 cents more than January prices—a mark of record acceleration, too. Oil refinery maintenance and a decline in production are responsible for the record-breaking prices, according to AAA Chicago spokesman Bill Mosher. Things won’t be getting better anytime soon, either. As the seasons change, refineries will be transitioning to (slightly) more environmentally friendly, but more expensive summer blends of gas. UPDATE: 3 Car Accident at 183rd and Perth

An auto collision occurred at the intersection of 183rd and Perth in Homewood sometime near 6:45.

Two are hospitalized after a three-car traffic accident occurred sometime near 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of 183rd and Perth Avenue in Homewood, according to Sergeant Mark Phalen of the Homewood Police Department. According to Phalen, the accident occurred when one of the vehicles failed to sufficiently brake in time to avoid collision with the vehicle in front of it. The impact resulted in the stricken car moving forward and hitting a third car.  Minor traffic delays resulted from the accident, but it was quickly cleaned up by Homewood police and fire. The official police report will be generated tomorrow morning.
