Blazing Trojans maintain their grip on the Patch Power Rankings top spot, but H-F, Marist and Brother Rice are also riding high with recent victories.
1. Bloom Township (6-0): The Blazing Trojans put their defensive prowess on full display in Tuesday’s 49-38 win at Thornwood. Henry Hicks, a 6-foot-2 junior, is among Bloom’s defensive standouts, and he’s not too shabby on the offensive end, either. Point guard Donald Moore is a driving force. 2. Homewood-Flossmoor (5-1): The Vikings have bounced back after losing to Bloom on Thanksgiving weekend, earning victories over Joliet West and Morgan Park and Rich Central. 3. Marist (4-0): The RedHawks have two of the top underclassmen in the area in Lexus Williams and Nic Weishar. Williams scored 26 points and Weishar netted 23 in the RedHawks’ 74-71 victory over St. Rita on Tuesday night. 4. Andrew (4-0): The Thunderbolts end a week-long layoff …

Fourth-inning streak resulted in seven runs to help the Vikings break a scoreless tie in their 14-2 six-inning baseball victory over Bloom Township on Saturday.
The Homewood-Flossmoor baseball team kept it simple against Bloom Township in the finale game of the regular season for both teams. “The coaches told me to see the pitch, hit the pitch, and run very fast," H-F's Anfernee Roberts said. "That is all I had to do." Roberts followed that concept to a tee in helping the Vikings defeat the Blazing Trojans 14-2 in six innings on Saturday. Roberts reached base all four times. He finished with two hits and two walks. He also had two RBIs, scored three runs and even stole a base. “The coaches have faith in me, so they put me in the lineup," Roberts said. "I knew I had to get the job done." The Vikings finished the regular season with a 19-11 record, while the Blazing Trojans finished 7-19. Both teams…

A teacher who helped start the school, another who fell into teaching and a 24-year vice president make up the first members of the college's Hall of Honor.
For Glenn Stehr, random encounters with old friends are common. "One time the nurses in the hospital kept coming to say hi, and the person next to me asked, 'Who are you?'" Stehr said. A former professor of biology at Prairie State College, Stehr often runs into his former students. "The veterinarian for my dog was one of my ex-students," Stehr said. "My dentist was one of my ex-students." Stehr, Dale Haywood and Jim Troutman recently were named to the inaugural Hall of Honor class for Prairie State College. The inductees carry stories of service, leadership and a desire to be the difference in students' lives. Glenn Stehr, Professor of Biology Stehr attended North Central College in Naperville before earning his master's degree in …
