Harvey Woman Makes Unusual Shopping Trip in Homewood: Police

Homewood police reports, Feb. 7-10.

SUNDAY, FEB. 10 Diante Reed, 21, of the 17300 block of Wooded Path in East Hazel Crest was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license after police saw him driving on near the intersection of Governors Highway and 183rd Street and ran his plates, according to the report. Police saw Reed's license had been suspended and stopped him in the 17900 block of Governors. Reed was unable to provide valid proof of insurance or a driver's license, police said. After taking Reed into custody, police searched his vehicle to find 0.4 grams of a leafy substance that later tested positive for cannabis, according to the report. Reed racked up an additional charges of no insurance and received a citation for possession of cannabis, police …

Stolen Bucket of Fried Chicken: Blotter

Homewood police reports, Jan. 11-14

MONDAY, JANUARY 14  Police issued a citation to a man for stealing a box of cupcakes and a bucket of fried chicken from the 183rd Street Jewel-Osco just before 11 p.m., according to reports. The total value of the stolen food was just under $30, police say.  Kmart security caught a woman red handed as she attempted to steal two bottles of alcohol from the store around 4:15. p.m., according to reports. Police say the total value of the stolen bottles was just under $80. FRIDAY, JANUARY 11  Someone broke into a Homewood man’s apartment on the 800 block of Elder Road sometime between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., according to police. Flossmoor Police Investigating Recent Home Break-Ins

Police are increasing patrols in this Flossmoor neighborhood after two potentially related home burglaries occurred last week.

Flossmoor police are on the lookout for the cuplrit or cuplrits behind two recent home burglies, according to a release from the department. The fist break-in was on the 1300 block of Dartmouth Rd. between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 11, police say. Nobody was home when the burglar(s) stole electronics and personal items, according to the release.  Police say a potentially related burglary happened on the 2000 block of Oxford Court on Jan. 15, also between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.—two blocks away from the other break-in. Nobody was home during the time of the burglary. Flossmoor police say they've beefed up patrol in these areas. SATURDAY, JANUARY 12  Someone stole a wedding ring from a Homewood woman’s bedroom on the 3200 block of Mallard Drive sometime between Jan 1 and Jan 12, according to police. FRIDAY, JANUARY 11  30-year-old Marcos Villarreal of the 100 block of E 23rd Street in Chicago Heights received a slew of charges, including endangering the life of a child, after pulling a daring stunt while driving. Police say they attempted to pull Villarreal over near the 18700 block of Halsted Street after running his plates and learning he has a suspended license. Instead of pulling over, Villarreal continued driving and managed to swap places with the passenger, according to reports. MONDAY, January 10, 2013 Police are on the lookout for a middle-aged woman allegedly responsible for stealing just over $60 of socks and lotion from the 183rd Street Walgreens, according to reports. The woman was reported stealing the items just after 3 p.m., reports say. Someone “punched in” the lock area of a Homewood woman’s car sometime between midnight on Jan. 9 and 3 a.m. on Jan. 10 on the 3000 block of Olive Road, according to reports. The estimated damage is $150. SATURNDAY, DECEMBER 29  47-year-old Darren Shoulders was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage after police caught him swerving into the opposite lane on 183rd Street and Western Ave. Police say Shoulders, of the 12300 block of LaSalle in Chicago had a blood alcohol content of .265 when officers administered the test. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 28 A juvenile was beaten and robbed on the 18000 block of Halsted Street around 11:15 p.m., according to reports. Police say the juvenile was walking southbound with a friend away from the Speedway gas station after buying some drinks when an unknown man came up behind him and hit him in the head with his arm. MONDAY, DECEMBER 28 Nicole Laurent, of the 14700 block of Avalon in Dolton, was charged with retail theft for stealing $65 worth of cigarettes, cigars and beauty products from Kmart, according to police. Attempted Home Ruse Burglary on Hood Avenue

The plot was foiled thanks to a Homewood resident's suspicions, according to police reports.

A Homewood resident foiled an attempted two-man ruse burglary at his Hood Ave. home on Wednesday, Dec. 26, according to police. Police say a grey car parked in the man’s driveway around 3 p.m. and a man exited, claiming to be a new neighbor. The resident invited the “neighbor” inside, but quickly grew suspicious as the stranger tried to persuade him to go to the back of the house, according to the report. As the resident protested, another man made a surprise entrance through the front door, police said. Reports say the resident “started screaming at the offenders to get out of the house” and the two strangers fled westbound on Linden Road. Man Beaten and Robbed on 187th Street: Blotter

Homewood police reports, Dec. 7-11

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11 Someone stole a metal turtle decoration from the front stoop of a Homewood resident’s apartment on the 1900 block of Hickory Road, according to police.  The owner told police on Dec. 11 that the turtle was stolen sometime between 8 a.m. on Nov. 17 and 8 a.m. on Nov. 18. Police say the metal turtle was painted green with a few white paint spots. It also has a secret compartment under its shell, which lifts up when the head is stepped on, according to reports.
