Homewood Man Fakes Going to Work, Foils Potential Burglar

A Homewood homeowner deceived a youth thought to be responsible for two recent crimes in the 17900 block of Loomis Ave.

A juvenile, whose name was not released, received a municipal ordinance violation citation for disorderly conduct after attempting to enter a home in the 17900 block of Loomis Avenue at 9:03 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20. The homeowner told police he faked going to work because of a theft and a burglary that occurred each of the two previous days. The man pulled his car out of his driveway, parked it a block away and then walked back home. The man listened inside as the youth tried first the front door and then the back. He threw open the back door when he heard the youth trying to turn the handle. The homeowner told police the boy never entered the home and he fled east when confronted. Homewood Detective Honored for Stopping Burglary String

Detective William Rolle was honored for his outstanding work performance leading to seven charges of residential burglary in Homewood's Governors Park neighborhood.

Homewood’s Governors Park neighborhood is a safer place, thanks to the work of Detective William Rolle. He was honored during last Tuesday’s village board meeting for his role in stopping a trend of residential burglaries in the northwest corner of Homewood. Rolle was performing surveillance in the Governors Park neighborhood on Feb. 14 in response to a string of residential burglaries. He noticed a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle associated with a prior burglary in the same area and called for backup. Police stopped the vehicle, arresting the four individuals inside for the burglary of a home on Briar Ave. Further investigation revealed three of the four alleged burglars were involved in another nearby residential burglary …

Landscaping Brick Meets Car Window: Homewood Police Blotter

TUESDAY, MAY 8 Someone threw a landscaping brick through a rear window of a vehicle that was parked in the 2900 block of Chayes Park Drive. The vandalism and damage, estimated at about $500, happened some time between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., police said. FRIDAY, MAY 4 Two juvenile girls took electronics with an estimated value of $1,209 from a home in the 2200 block of Hawthorne Road at approximately 4:30 p.m., police said. A resident returned home to find at least one of the juveniles in the house, according to the police report. The young burglars then ran from the house carrying a large purse that contained a jar filled with coins, laptop computer, digital camera and a Palm Pilot, the victim told police. Flossmoor Police Blotter: Maintenance Man Implicated in Recurring Burglaries

THURSDAY, DEC. 15 A 65-year-old homeowner from the 2800 block of Flossmoor Road told police that his maintenance man might be stealing from this home judging by the familiar “gifts” the man has been giving their mutual female friend. The woman said she has received pots, pans, vases and a vacuum recently and has seen other recognizable items, including a massage chair and prescription pills, inside the maintenance man’s home. The homeowner said he wasn’t certain whether such items had been missing because “I have a lot of extra stuff in my attic.” Police said they suspect the maintenance man—who is still employed by the homeowner—is connected to burglary at the same address that was reported in August. MONDAY, NOV. 28 Eric J. Leaner, 25, of the 3400 block of Golfview Drive in Hazel Crest, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding and no proof of insurance. Police said they stopped Leaner’s car in the 3100 block of Vollmer Road around 2:15 a.m. for driving 53 in a 40 mph zone and smelled alcohol on his breath. He failed field sobriety tests and a Breathalyzer exam, according to the report. A 66-year-old Flossmoor woman told police she received a bill from a collection agency for $6,000 worth of dental work in January, which she denied having done. TUESDAY, NOV. 15 Although a 27-year-old Harvey man told police he was beaten without reason in front of the H-F Ice Arena, police said they have good reason to doubt his tale. According to the report, the man said he and a woman were leaving a friend’s party and walking south on Kedzie Avenue around 2 a.m. when a group of four men—two black, two Hispanic—approached and hit him in the back of the neck with a baseball bat. However, the reporting officer said he could find no signs of swelling, redness or bruising on the man’s neck after taking him to the emergency room. Chicago Heights Homeowner Shoots Teen-Ager in His Kitchen

Police are investigating a fatal shooting Tuesday morning in which a Chicago Heights man shot a teenager he said was breaking into his home, police said.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 300 block of N. Boston Street in Chicago Heights discovered 18-year-old Anterrio L. Hall unresponsive and lying in the grass in the back yard, according to a release. Chicago Heights paramedics attempted to revive Hall, of the 1900 block of Adams Street, and took the teen to St. James Hospital, police said. However, their attempts were unsuccessful and Hall was pronounced dead upon his arrival, according to the release. The homeowner told investigators he was in the bathroom when he heard a sound of breaking glass coming from his kitchen, police said. [Update] Artistix Salon Burglarized

Early reports indicate the hair salon was burglarized sometime last night.

This article was last updated at 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 7, 2011. Homewood police have confirmed the recent burglary of Artistix Salon. A secretary at the police station said the burglary happened sometime during the night. A broken window alerted police of the burglary, according to police. "This is the fourth time Artistix has been burglarized in the same exact way," Owner Christine Roney said. Homewood police have yet to offer an official statement on the burglary, but they say detectives are currently pursuing the case.  Roney, however, says police already have a suspect.
