We're asking readers to weigh in on the decision to cancel Homewood Days 2012.
Last year's poorly received Homewood Days celebration has led officials back to the drawing board. The celebration has been cancelled for this year and we want to know how you feel about it. From our Facebook page, reactions so far have been mixed. Brenna Sons Norder says, "Wow. That really stinks!" while Colin Thomas explained, "Just think of it as putting the event in "timeout" with hopes of a better plan for 2013. There are about 50 other events through the year that we can all enjoy and should show our support to. If you want to drink n the street though, have a block party." What say you? Good move by the Homewood Chamber of Commerce or no? Please add your feedback in the comments.
The Homewood Area Chamber of Commerce made the announcement during the March 13 Homewood Village meeting.
No revised Homewood Days 2012 plan was presented during Tuesday night’s village board meeting. Instead, Homewood Area Chamber of Commerce President Debbie Lucia gave the following announcement: “The chamber has taken the board’s advice under strong consideration and at this time the chamber does agree that we should take a rest for Homewood Days of 2012.” The chamber’s postponement came with some contingencies, however. In lieu of hosting the event this year, Lucia made some requests of the board: The latter request did not bode well with the majority of the board. “That’s a pretty big bomb to drop on us right now, in a meeting, without any time to think it through,” Trustee Anne Colton said. “My first thought is. ‘no.’” “I think it’s …

The Homewood Area Chamber of Commerce says it's developing Homewood Days 2012 based on feedback from last year, but it's not enough to get a consensus approval from the village board.
Homewood Area Chamber of Commerce members approached Homewood’s Village Board during Tuesday night’s meeting hoping to secure the board's blessing for their in-the-works Homewood Days 2012 plan. What they got, however, was anything but. Village Manager Ralph DeWitt set the stage: “Last year, after the Homewood Days event, there were a number of issues that (were communicated) to the staff and the chamber,” DeWitt said. “Staff and chamber worked over the last few months to develop a new proposal to help change Homewood Days, both the location and structure—how the event works—and to address those concerns and to make it a much more effective event.” READ THIS ARTICLE ON HOMEWOOD DAYS 2011 TO UNDERSTAND WHAT “ISSUES” DeWITT IS TALKING ABOUT…

Not family friendly at all... Not worth the money at all. I won't be going next year. :( Dina Lyles Harrison: Yes, it absolutely deserves all the flack it's been getting. We paid our 5 bucks per person…

Dennis Fares brings an eclectic background and fresh ideas to his Interim Director's post at the Homewood Area Chamber of Commerce
Dennis Fares is a man who likes a challenge. That’s a good trait to have for someone who has gone from working at the Homewood Area Chamber of Commerce part-time last August to interim director of the chamber in just five short months. Fares has brought a lot of new ideas to the chamber. He started sending out weekly “email blasts” every Friday as a means for chamber members to publicize specials and important information. “There’s been a great response,” said Fares. Fares himself brings an eclectic background to his new job at the chamber. An H-F High School graduate, prior to coming to the chamber he attended Culinary Arts School and served as Assistant Marketing Director for Special Events for Lincoln Mall. "I (still) enjoy cooking …

Kathy Nussbaum resigned on Dec. 30 after serving as the Director of the Homewood Area Chamber of Commerce for nearly two decades.
Homewood Area Chamber of Commerce Director Kathy Nussbaum abruptly called it quits on Dec. 30 after 17 years of service to the community. Nussbaum had been planning on resigning for some time, but the decision last week was not expected, according to a source who is familiar with the chamber’s affairs. “A lot of people are shocked because I just said I’m done,” said Nussbaum. “It was time for me … I thought the chamber needed some fresh blood.” When asked for a comment, Chamber of Commerce Board President Martin Mitchell said, “She just left. That’s it.” “I’m going to miss parts of it,” said Nussbaum. “I’ve worked with many hard-working, dedicated business owners over the years … it’s been wonderful.” After 17 years, she remains …

I really loved Homewood Days why would you cancel it? :( It was really fun and I can't believe it. It was on my summer to do list. :( Not like I can do anything about it. But I just think it was an enjoyable time of year and you should think about the bright side of it.   more ›
