Egdorf said she applied for the award with the village's permission and it was dedicated last Saturday at the governor's mansion in Springfield. Homewood was the only village in the state to be honored with this award along with downstate Madison County, according to Egdorf. Egdorf also announced that, at 2 p.m. on Oct. 28, ISHS members will gather at 17800 Hasted Street for the dedication of an Illinois State Historical Society Historic Marker honoring the former Washington Park Racetrack. The board voted to waive bidding requirements and approved $45,509.85 for the purchase of one new Chevy Tahoe and one new Ford F350, both through Illinois State Purchase contracts. Despite some confusion among the board as to why Chipotle previously insisted on not needing a liquor license, the trustees unanimously voted to add and approve a Class 5 liquor license for the upcoming Chipotle restaurant on 17700 Halsted. Previously, Cilantro Cocina was the only Class 5 license holder. A minor snag occured, however, when the representative from Chipotle realized there was no language in the agreement to allow for alcoholic beverages to be taken outside on the patio. The board still voted to allow the Class 5 license and advised Chipotle to …

Third, Chipotle has never had a problem in any of their stores with liquor being sold or being used by their employees, and I can assure you that they will not start now. You're right about one thing. Chipotle isn't Cilantro. It's better!   more ›

Some exciting new places are coming to Homewood, but is this what our community needs?
In a time where vacancies are prevalent and local shops are closing their doors for good, things seem to be looking up for Homewood. Today, we announced the Central Business District will soon be home to a boutique hotel. The hotel would put Homewood in the same league as St. Charles and Geneva—and would make it the only South Suburb with a boutique hotel. On top of that, the old Bakers Square building in the Southgate business district is going to become “The Cottage on Dixie,” a fine dining restaurant, and Chipotle will be moving in on Halsted before the year’s end. All these changes will undoubtedly have an impact on the community, though. Will a chain like Chipotle take away from the local feel here? What will the Central Business …
