Homewood Cash Mob Takes a Twist, But Still Going Strong

Patch took some time to catch up with the Homewood Cash Mob's chief proponent, Kate Duff, to see how the idea is maturing and learn what to expect during Wednesday's mob.

Update @ 1 p.m. on June 26: the secret Cash Mob location, Homewood Florist, and the after-mob party at Tokyo Japaese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar has been added to the body. That special time of month where one lucky local business gets picked to be mobbed by shoppers. After breaking through with the first South Suburban Cash Mob ever only a couple months ago, Homewood is now moving along with its third Cash Mob installment, but this time, things are a little different. Patch caught up with Kate Duff, the driving force behind Homewood’s Cash Mob, to find out a little bit more on what to expect from Wednesday’s event. To start with, the Wednesday, June 27 Cash Mob will break from the standard hour-or-so timeframe and, instead, last all day long, …

Friday was all about the bargain. Several folks told Patch about their best finds on Friday. Tell us about yours in the comment section. FOUND AT TARGET, OAK LAWN Gina Roach and her mother, Sharon Valente, both of Beverly, caught a few good deals early Friday at Target in Oak Lawn. Their finds included a Fisher-Price laptop for $22.99 and a 9-inch LCD TV for $55, down from $120. "I'm tingling," Valente confessed with a laugh. FOUND AT BEST BUY, HOMEWOOD Mrs. Thomas (who declined to share her first name), of Chicago, visited Best Buy in Homewood to find the last Kinect bundle for $199. You’ve probably gotten register rewards at Walgreen’s, but did you know that you don’t have to spend them at Walgreen’s? You buy a $10 item and perhaps you get $5 or even $10 back in Register Rewards—why not use that money to lower your grocery bill? Jewel takes Register Rewards as long as they say "manufacturer coupon" on the top. Save them up for a way to really bring down your grocery bill! Want to rent a movie, did you know you can get more movie bang for your buck? When you initially sign up for a Family Video account, you get half-off all movies for one month. Did you know you can renew that privilege? For $9.95 per month, you can get half off all your movie rentals. It only takes a few movies rented before it pays for itself. And …

We attended Odyssey Pumpkin Farm October 10 around noon. It is not a farm or even a pumpkin patch — just a barren area adjacent to a corn field with tents and bounce houses for "rides." The animals at the petting zoo looked overheated and sickly — apparently without much hydration or shelter. Our 5-year-old daughter got knocked around and kicked in the head because the activities are unsupervised…   more ›
