Andrew Boys Basketball Vaults to the Top of Patch Power Rankings

Andrew leapfrogged Bloom and staked its claim to the No. 1 spot in the Patch Power Rankings for boys basketball. H-F held steady in the No. 3 spot. Marist and Brother Rice will square off on Tuesday (Jan. 17) to settle their battle for the 4-5 positions.

1. Andrew (11-0): Jawad Adekoya and Glorind Lisha each scored 19 points in a 61-46 victory at Lincoln-Way East. The T-Bolts play host to Thornridge tonight, then play at Illiana Christian on Saturday. 2. Bloom ((14-2): Henry Hicks made 8-of-10 shots and scored a season-high 17 points in a 55-35 victory at Joliet Central. The Trojans snapped a two-game losing streak. Conditions call for a “Whiteout” performance vs. Crete-Monee tonight. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. at Bloom Trail. 3. Homewood-Flossmoor (10-4): Ah, that’s more like it. Delvon Rencher fueled a 15-2 first-quarter burst in H-F’s 58-49 victory over Bolingbrook. Rencher finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. The Vikings face Sandburg in a Southwest Suburban Blue showdown tonight …

Boys Basketball Photo Gallery: H-F, Williams Dunk L-W East with Third-Quarter Burst

Homewood-Flossmoor 60, Lincoln-Way East 45: Tim Williams led the Vikings to a big victory on Friday night in Southwest Suburban Blue boys basketball action.

One minute he was dunking the basketball. The next Homewood-Flossmoor's Tim Williams was firing in three-pointers. Williams scored 19 points and hit three 3-pointers in H-F's 60-45 boys basketball victory over Lincoln-Way East on Friday night at Homewood-Flossmoor. Tyrone Sherman added nine points for the Vikings. H-F used a 16-0 third-quarter scoring run to distance itself from Lincoln-Way East. The Griffins were led by Jelani Yancy's 12 points. The Patch Athlete of the Week is...

Providence Catholic's Alex Shermulis, who outpolled five other south suburban athletes to get this week's honor.

Girls basketball star Alex Shermulis of Providence Catholic outpolled five others in balloting for Patch Athlete of the Week honors. She got 63 percent of the vote. Shermulis is now eligible for December Patch Athlete of the Month recognition. The nominees for Southland Patch Athlete of the Week, Nov. 27 to Dec. 3, were: LaTondra Brooks, girls basketball, Oak Lawn: Brooks scored 34 points in a 69-50 win over Morton. Jon Calhoun, boys basketball, Tinley Park: Calhoun scored 20 points and grabbed two rebounds in a 58-56 win over Oak Lawn. His last-second layup was the game-winner for the Titans. Cory Chojnowski, wrestling, Andrew: Chojnowski won the heavyweight championship at the Stagg Invitational. He also led the T-Bolts to a second-place…
