Drunken Driver was Three Times the Legal Limit: Homewood Police Blotter

Homewood police reports, Jan. 16-17

TUESDAY, JAN. 17 Anthony Aurelio, 31, of the 700 block of Coales Road in Chicago Heights, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they stopped Aurelio’s car near Maple Road and Dixie Highway around 2:30 a.m. for driving without a rear plate light and saw a bag in the backseat resembling a gun case. According to the report, Aurelio gave officers permission to search the bag, which only contained tools, though they found a glass pipe on the floor. Aurelio denied ownership of the pipe to police, saying it likely belonged to someone who had recently sat in the backseat. 'Liquid Diet' Equals DUI for Homewood Woman

A 24-year-old woman who told police she consumed seven alcoholic beverages from midnight to 3 a.m. received multiple charges, including driving under the influence, police said.

SATURDAY, JULY 30 Laina Shlaes, of the 3100 block of Olive, was pulled over after driving 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, police said. When the officer spoke to Shlaes, he noticed a strong smell of alcohol, that her eyes were glassy, and her speech was slurred, according to the report. When Shlaes exited her blue Dodge van to take the sobriety test, the officer saw an orange pill container fall from her vehicle, and the pill container had a strong odor of cannabis, according to the report. The officer then retrieved two clear plastic bags with a green, leafy substance and a glass pipe with cannabis residue from the floor of Shlaes' van, police said. Frankfort Man Slumped Over Wheel with Vehicle in Drive

A Frankfort man was charged with driving under the influence after Flossmoor police found him slumped over the steering column of his vehicle, with the vehicle set in drive and keys in the ignition, police said.

SATURDAY, JULY 9 Matthew J. Komer, 23, of the 8600 block of Cedar Court, was found apparently unconscious in his 2005 red Toyota Corolla shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday, police said. Komer's car was stopped on the westbound lane of Vollmer Road near the intersection of Vollmer and Western, according to the report. When the officer tapped on the car's window, Komer woke up and attempted to drive away, but was ordered by the officer to stop, police said. The officer noted a strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath, and also that his eyes appeared red, glassy and watery, according to the report.
