President Preckwinkle to Lead Economic Development Meeting in Flossmoor

Flossmoor’s upcoming Meijer Store and other economic development projects are on the agenda for Friday’s 9 a.m. meeting at Flossmoor Village Hall.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle will visit Flossmoor Village Hall today at 9 a.m. to guest speak for a special quarterly event hosted by the Chicago Southland Economic Development Corporation (CSEDC). Flossmoor’s new Meijer store, the Cook County tax rollback and increased transportation efforts—such as the widening of Center Ave near CN headquarters—will be discussed according to a release from CSEDC. Mayor Paul Braun will be joining Preckwinkle to talk about the village’s Meijer plans. Green infrastructure and robotics are also on the agenda. Want to get in on the action? Homewood Makes TIF Program Revisions

Spending caps and increased scrutiny of applications are just some of the changes.

Article updated at 2 p.m. on Jan. 10, 2013 The Village of Homewood voted to revise the currently offered TIF incentive programs during the Jan. 8 board meeting. Community Development Director Paula Wallrich says several reasons called for the revisions. Declining property values have resulted in a lower-than-expected TIF fund balance. Wallrich also said some long-time businesses in town are requesting more help as part of a developing business retention program. “We also wanted to make sure that we were doing everything we could to secure and protect the village’s investment,” Wallrich said.
