We should expect more of our government and more of ourselves, according to the citizens advocacy group.
How can a convicted criminal with a 20-year state prison record win the Republican nomination for Jesse Jackson Jr.’s vacated 2nd District congressional seat? Why did a loose paper clip doom a potential Evergreen Park mayoral candidate’s chances of entering the race? These are the questions poised by a recent Reboot Illinois post. “We’ve lost our grip on common sense and common good … This is our government and we ought to demand better of it and of ourselves.” Reboot’s piece references a recent Chicago Tribune report. It revealed more than 200 candidates faced ballot challenges and 76 candidates were prevented from running in about three dozen suburbs in the upcoming April election. That includes Shawn Good of Evergreen Park. She was …

Homewood attorney Earnest B. Fenton says GSU failed to acknowledge his confirmation for last week's forum.
2nd District congressional candidate and Homewood attorney Earnest B. Fenton says he was not allowed to participate in a Feb. 7 candidate forum at Governors State University (GSU). According to a statement from Fenton, GSU failed to recognize his confirmation of attendance. "GSU is a public tax payer institution, none of the political candidates should be barred from participating,” Fenton’s Campaign Manager David Anderson said in a release. “Also, we have records of the calls to GSU confirming our attendance,” Despite his claims to have been excluded from the event, Fenton attended last week’s forum, anyway. "I don't know how to react to this except to say that this is Chicago politics in the works,” Fenton said in a release. "I am not …

2nd District congressional candidate Debbie Halvorson is returning fire on New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg after his super PAC ran an attack ad criticizing her previous support from the NRA.
2nd District candidate Debbie Halvorson is accusing New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg of trying to “buy an election in Illinois,” after his political action committee ran a television ad attacking Halvorson for her previous A rating from the NRA, the Chicago Tribune reports. Unlike most of her 2nd District race counterparts, Halvorson does not support Obama’s gun ban. Bloomberg’s new Independence USA super PAC is known for supporting the election or defeat of legislators depending on their likelihood to help fuel an aggressive anti-gun agenda, according to the National Journal. Obviously Mayor Bloomberg and his billions have decided he wants to come buy an election in Illinois. It's quite over the top. I think it's probably done wonders not…

Candidate Robin Kelly says Sen. Toi Hutchinson is only in favor of a gun ban now because it’s politically convenient.
Second District congressional candidate Toi Hutchinson currently supports Obama’s gun ban, but she didn’t always feel that way, according to a Chicago Tribune report. The Trib recently pulled an NRA questionnaire revealing multiple "A" ratings for Hutchinson, who opposed a gun ban in her 2010 election. Hutchinson says the Sandy Hook shooting is what made her change her position on banning weapons, but candidate Robin Kelly isn’t buying it. Unlike Hutchinson, Kelly received an “F” rating by the NRA, an achievement she’s very proud of. “The only thing that ‘changed’ for Toi Hutchinson is that she entered a race for Congress where her past support of the NRA’s agenda was no longer politically convenient,” Kelly said in a press release. “It’s …

The former NFL player and current State Senator Napoleon Harris says Kelly supports the issues he sees as pressing to the 2nd District.
State Senator Napoleon Harris is dropping out of the race to fill Jesse Jackson Jr.’s former 2nd District congressional seat. His Wednesday afternoon announcement also came with a surprise endorsement of candidate Robin Kelly (D). “I believe we need to fight for more educational opportunity, better jobs and to get guns out of the hands of criminals and gangs that are preying on our neighborhoods,” Harris said in a release. “I believe Robin Kelly is the right candidate to pick up that cause to fight for the people of Chicago and the Southland." Kelly said she is honored to have Harris’ endorsement. Her campaign continues to build on a daily basis, according to her, because of people like Harris who support her aggressive plan to eliminate …

tsk tsk you are not telling the whole story here. She did not get kicked off only because of a paper clip. If you are going to run for Mayor of a village, you need to follow directions. Which she did not. If you can't fasten documents you can't run a village. Second, she had invalid signatures, people who signed her petition but were not registered to vote, GENIUSES! If you need 67 signatures you…   more ›
