Groups Rally for Marriage Equality Protest in Chicago Heights Saturday

Groups for and against same-sex marriage plan to protest tomorrow at Rep. DeLuca's office in Chicago Heights.

Following Gov. Pat Quinn's insistence that the Illinois House send him legislation to legalize gay marriage, groups on both sides of the issue will rally outside Rep. Anthony DeLuca's Chicago Heights office Saturday.  Quinn is calling on legislators to put the bill on his desk, saying they've "had plenty of time to make up their mind on the issue," according to the Chicago Tribune.  The measure passed through the state Senate on Valentine's Day.  Members of Illinois Family—a group opposing gay marriage—will protest the legalization of same-sex marriage. Pro-gay marriage group Gay Liberation Network, which had previously scheduled its presence at a protest in Western Springs, has shifted its plans to attend the south suburban rally, instead…

went there to see what it was about.... the IFI was trying to put their point forward but the 2/3 gay crowd just shouted and blasted music what a shame..at least they got the fencejumper's vote!   more ›

Illinois Senate Passes Historic Same Sex Marriage Bill

The bill will now move to the House of Representatives where it will have to pass committee and floor action before going to Gov. Quinn.

A bill to legalize same-sex marriage passed the Illinois Senate early Thursday afternoon, making a happier Valentine's Day for gay couples across the state. The Senate passed the bill—SB 10—with 34 votes in favor, 21 votes against and two abstentions. The bill will now go to the House of Representatives, where it will need 60 votes to pass.  The bill will now go over to the House of Representative where it will have to repeat the same process before going to Gov. Quinn, who already voiced his support of the bill in a Chicago Tribune report. If passed, the state law defining marriage would be changed from an act between a man and a woman, to two people.  "I've been told it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when it's going to be done," …
