The illustrious Homewood-Flossmoor Science Pub will convene on Tuesday night at Flossmoor Station to discuss Marine Ecology and the Invisible Fabric of Nature.
Both learning and drinking have become hallmarks of a college experience to many. Usually, however, it's frowned upon to combine the two. Professors tend to discourage drinking during class. That won't be the case Tuesday night, though. The Homewood-Flossmoor Science Pub will be hosting a lecture at Flossmoor Station on April 24 at 8 p.m., led by University of Chicago Department of Ecology and Evolution Professor Tim Wootton. The subject material? Wootton's presentation is titled "Marine Ecology and the Invisible Fabric of Nature." Drinks aside, the event is free for anyone to attend. Considering the price of a college course these days, it's a steal.

A decadent and hearty showdown in spite of cold weather.
This week’s Chowdown was suggested by none other than our loyal Facebook readers: the Reuben sandwich. This decadent, hot corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing sandwich has disputed origins, according to the almighty Wikipedia—but there will be no disputing the winner by the time this showdown is over. Here are the candidates: So cast your vote by Friday, 3 p.m. Let the competition begin! Don't forget, you can rate and review the above businesses by clicking on their link to our Patch Places Directory!

It's time to tackle the fickle taste buds of the tots in a special edition Chowdown.
There are quite a few restaurants that offer adults a delicious selection of enjoyable meals, but at some of the same restaurants the kids don't stand a chance. That's why I decided to have my own Mini Me help out with this week's Chowdown. We used your suggestions to create a list of three great restaurants in the area and had an 8-year-old kid see how kids menus at these eateries stacked up. We chose distinctly different kids dishes from the restaurants, mainly because we're judging the menus as a whole and not comparing the meals by themselves. My youngster rated the three restaurants and picked which one he liked best. I also rated them and came up with a parent's choice winner. I mean, because let's be honest, we rarely agree with our…

Wow, I am offended by this interview. I am the owner of "The Skate Shop" and I take great pride in my business. Skating is huge in Illinois and is mostly adults. This is a very social way to excersice and it is very theraputic. I am still in business because I care so much for all of my customers, they become part of my family. I have excellent customer service and will stop at nothing to make …   more ›
