The Flossmoor Public Arts Commission is recommending the village include a sculpture produced by H-F High School students to its famed sculpture garden rotation. The piece selected is called “Bell Tower” and it is currently being constructed by students in acclaimed teacher Greg Petecki’s class. Should the board approve, the sculpture will be loaned to the village for three years. A concrete pad in front of the Flossmoor public library has already been selected to showcase the piece. Trustees will vote to give $87,681 to HR Green Inc. for design engineering services associated with the phase one water system improvement plan.

After years of citation frustration, Anne Aboushousha of "Sweet Annie's Bakery" formally requested the village offer parking passes to downtown business owners and their employees.
Flossmoor's village board will discuss options to amend their current parking policy to cater to downtown business owners and their employees. This comes in response to a formal request from Flossmoor resident Anne Aboushsousha during the Dec. 3 village board meeting. Aboushousha, more commonly known around town as "Sweet Annie," owns Sweet Annie's Bakey in downtown Flossmoor. She says her employees and she have struggled with Flossmoor's parking situaion—and received many expensive violations—since opening up shop four years ago. "If you work an eight-hour shift, you have to find three different areas to park, which in a big hassle, especially for those of us who work twelve-hour days," Aboushousha said. "In some shops, where there is …
Flossmoor Economic Director Scott Bordui says residents will see a direct savings on their property tax bill.
Flossmoor residents, as a whole, will save over $29,000 on their property tax bills this year thanks to a resolution passed during the Dec. 3 village board meeting. The extra money comes from the village's 2009 General Obligation (G.O.) refunded money from 2002 library construction bonds. Flossmoor Finance Director Scott Bordui says the excess cash is the result of several factors, including loss and cost collections over the life of the bond and through refinancing. "It's basically a direct savings to the resident," Bordui said. Bordui said this is the third abatement the village has issued in three years. Overall, this has amounted to nearly $40,000 in savings for residents as a whole.
Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun presented a resolution honoring resident Else "Snookie" Jeneson on her 100th birthday.
Long before the cast of Jersey Shore was born, even before the invention of television, Else "Snookie" Heidt was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Nov. 26, 1912. "This is a little Snookie," the housekeeper said upon first glance of the newborn, according to a resolution passed by the village. Now, 100 later, the name still sticks. Since moving to Flossmoor in 1946 with husband George Jeneson and two children, Snookie Jensen has been an active member of the community. She has served as President of the Flossmoor Infant Welfare Society and also as a volunteer den leader for the Cub Scouts. She was one of the first volunteers at Flossmoor Community Church's Bargain Box, has enjoyed golfing at Olympia Fields Country Club and still plays bridge to …

Flossmoor's village board voted to spend $35,000 to test all the fire hydrants in town as part of a "growing concern" over the state of the village's water system.
All 769 of Flossmoor's fire hydrants will soon be flow tested, many for the first time since 2004, after trustees voted to spend $35,374 on a contract for the work during the Sept. 17 village board meeting. According to Flossmoor Fire Chief Chris Sewell, the testing has become increasingly imperative over recent years. “I can tell you that when a fire occurs in southeast Flossmoor, I cringe as our crews open a fire hydrant …,” Sewall said in a memo to the village manager. “If the water main doesn’t break as we open the hydrant, causing us to go elsewhere for a water supply, it most surely will break at some point during firefighting operations or as we close the hydrant after a fire.” Worse yet, subsequent breaks may occur several days …

Flossmoor reisdents now have an important decision ahead of them. Along with president of the United States, Flossmoor voters will be deciding to vote yes or no on a referendum attempting to issue a total of $7.2 million in general obligation (G.O.) bonds to help pay for village water system repairs. The improvement plan is expected to last eight years due to the work load, according to Director of Public Works George Peluso. READ: FLOSSMOOR CONSIDERS WATER SYSTEM REPAIR FINANCING Whether or not the repairs are necessary is up for debate. As it stands, the village seems to be hemorrhaging water at a rate of one gallon of every three lost, according to village reports.
