Flossmoor’s upcoming Meijer Store and other economic development projects are on the agenda for Friday’s 9 a.m. meeting at Flossmoor Village Hall.
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle will visit Flossmoor Village Hall today at 9 a.m. to guest speak for a special quarterly event hosted by the Chicago Southland Economic Development Corporation (CSEDC). Flossmoor’s new Meijer store, the Cook County tax rollback and increased transportation efforts—such as the widening of Center Ave near CN headquarters—will be discussed according to a release from CSEDC. Mayor Paul Braun will be joining Preckwinkle to talk about the village’s Meijer plans. Green infrastructure and robotics are also on the agenda. Want to get in on the action? The Village of Flossmoor is proposing a referendum in the Nov. 6 general election to ask residents whether they wish to approve the use of property taxes to foot the bill for a $7.28 million overhaul of the 90-year-old water main system.
The Village of Flossmoor is looking to pay for a $7.28 million water main replacement program using bonds that will be repaid through property tax revenues. However, in order to do that, the village first needs approval from residents in the form of a referendum on the ballot in the Nov. 6 general election. Flossmoor's water main system is 90 years old, and the village believes it's time for an upgrade. The village currently loses one out of every three gallons of water it purchases due to leaks and broken mains. The water pressure and fire flow capabilities of the old mains also aren't up to date and could cause public safety issues if they aren't improved. Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun and the Flossmoor Village Council will meet Monday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. for a regular village business meeting. Among the agenda items for tomorrow's meeting is the introduction of Flossmoor's new Executive Assistant, Josephine Armsbury. According to the agenda packet, Armsbury has nearly a decade of experience in both secretarial and administrative support duties as well as court reporting.
