Hair Salon Approved, Again; Outdoor Drinking for Chipotle: Meeting Recap

A recap of the Sept. 11 Homewood village board meeting.

Homewood’s master historian Elaine Egdorf came bearing good news last Tuesday night. According to her, the Illinois State Historical Society (ISHS) recently opened up accreditation for municipalities over 100 years old. Egdorf said she applied for the award with the village's permission and it was dedicated last Saturday at the governor's mansion in Springfield. Homewood was the only village in the state to be honored with this award along with downstate Madison County, according to Egdorf. Egdorf also announced that, at 2 p.m. on Oct. 28, ISHS members will gather at 17800 Hasted Street for the dedication of an Illinois State Historical Society Historic Marker honoring the former Washington Park Racetrack. The once well-known racetrack was…

The need for a permit is intended to give the village more control over the economic diversity of the downtown area. Hair salons, in particular, are one type of business that the permit is trying to regulate. Despite the odds against her, Shantel Houston applied for a special use permit to open …

Simple economic rules apply here. .Too many same service business cant remain stable enough to be successful and at some point they all suffer greatly by too much competition for a limited…   more ›

While I agree that the village shouldn't be determining exactly what businesses should be allowed they do seem to be the ones granting the permits and giving out money to certain businesses don't they? To me, another hair salon seems like a poor idea since there are so many already but hey, as long as the city isn't allowed to pass out funds to start it, let the have there chance. Now that we …   more ›
