Residents have considered how the re-election of President Obama is going to affect them personally, but what about business? Patch talks with several prominent local business owners to get their take on things.
All across the country, Americans are reacting to the news of President Obama’s reelection. While many are concerned about how the decision will affect them individually, thousands of local business owners are contemplating how four more years of an Obama administration might affect their efforts. To find out more, Patch asked around among the H-F business community get their take on it. Days after the election, the feedback is pretty optimistic. Larry Kane of Flossmoor owns Jonathan Kane Salon & Spa. Kane says his relatively new business has already seen a double-digit increase since opening in Feb. of 2010. A similar increase is expected this year, he says. Jonathan Kane has also grown from a humble seven original employees to the …

A few weeks ago, we asked Homewood and Flossmoor residents to provide suggestions for Just Turkey Restaurant located at Ridge Road and Halsted Street. Now, owner Brian Latman responds with a special message to Patch readers.
A few weeks ago, Patch asked residents for suggestions on how to help the delectible, but struggling restaurant Just Turkey located at 17947 Halsted Street. Since then, many of you provided advice in our comments section, and owner Brian Latman has been carefully listening. In fact, the long time Homewood residents has already implemented changes based on Patch reader suggestions including. Some include: As a gesture of appreciation for the feedback, Latman says he'll provide a meal on the house to all the original Patch readers who left a comment (he says he knows who you are, but we'll verify in the event of a dispute). New Faces Latman says he's seen a modest increase in business since the Suggestion Box post went live—including many …

Yes, already—even before Black Friday. We know the Christmas shopping tends to get done earlier every year in Homewood, Flossmoor and everywhere else. So, here's your chance to tell your friends and family what Christmas gift you want in 2012.
Head to downtown Homewood or Flossmoor or any nearby stores and you'll see that it's already beginning to look a lot like Christmas 2012 in and around the village. All kinds of gift ideas are out there. For totally local, you can get to Bella Vita, Global Fusion, Poppies or Art 4 Soul to find a one-of-a-kind gift in the heart of H-F. Maybe the big box stores are your thing? Walmart has already announced it is offering layaway again this year, with the iPad and HP Ultrabook-based laptops on the list of eligible purchases. The store has changed the policy on its open fee, which is kept if you ultimately can't pay for the item or refunded as a Walmart gift card when the item is fully paid off. That fee — or credit — has been increased from $…

Homewood Village President Richard Hofeld said both the old landmark and the old Shooter's location may be demolished by the end of the year.
Two prominent Homewood eyesores (as they’ve often been described) may soon be no more, according to an announcement from Homewood Village President Richard Hofeld during Thursday night’s H-F Area League of Women Voters annual potluck dinner. During a brief presentation on the status of the village, Hofeld said the former Homewood Hotel located at 17400 Halsted St. should be demolished by year’s end. The building, originally built by well-known former Homewood resident Richard Irwin in the late 70s, was once a celebrated facility. “It was a showplace,” Hofeld said in a former interview with Patch. “It was a place where you went for that special occasion … it was a wonderful place. Over the years, it declined.” WATCH: Homewood Village …

Last Friday, the Village of Homewood officially welcomed the latest addition to our business community, boutique wine and craft beer store Grape & Grain Co.
While the weather outside was dreary, spirits were high last Friday evening as Homewood Village President Richard Hofeld and several other village officials gathered for the ribbon cutting of Homewood’s new craft beer and wine store: Grape & Grain Co. The new shop, located at 18031 Dixie Highway, opened on Labor Day. Grape & Grain Co. is anything but your average liquor store. And don’t let the bar fool you. This isn’t a place you go to drown your sorrows in pint after pint of domestic suds. As owner Ron Khalaf promised in a Patch article months ago during the planning stages of Grape & Grain “It’s … a classy place.” The clean, modern sign on front of the building just north of Ridge on Dixie Highway gives a preview of what customers are …

Get to know what your neighbors are saying about local issues on the Patch comments section and Facebook site.
Hello Patchland. Welcome back to Feedback Friday, the feature that features you. Thanks to you, we've seen some exceptional growth on the H-F Patch Facebook page recently. Right now, we're at 1,319 friends and counting. That's more than 50 "likes" this month! As thanks, we want to highlight some of the action from H-F Patch and the H-F Patch Facebook page. Earlier this week, Homewood's village board voted in favor of awarding just over $140,000 in TIF money to Aurelio's to help finance a banquet room addition to the restaurant. Some have said this is a poor allocation of resources. Others think Aurelio's is entirely justified in making the request and receiving hte money. Here's what you had to say: It's been a hot week for the Village of …
