Flossmoor Police Chief Miller Retiring

Deputy Chief Mike Pulec will replace Chief Miller after 35 years of service.

After 35 years of service, Police Chief William Miller is retiring Feb. 1. He will be replaced by the village’s current Deputy Police Chief, Mike Pulec, who has been on the force for 20 years. Miller was honored at the village’s Jan. 22 board meeting. “I can’t say too much good things about this man,” Mayor Paul Braun said. “(His) steady leadership,  his calm demeanor has made police work go really easy, and we know it’s not …” Miller said he decided the time was right to step down a couple months ago. TIF Money for The Cottage On Dixie: On the Agenda

A preview of what's going to be discussed and voted on during Homewood's Jan. 22 village board meeting.

Homewood Village President Richard Hofeld and the village trustees will meet at Homewood Village Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. Trustees will vote to approve $212,500 in tax incentive money for The Cottage on Dixie, Homewood's new fine dining restaurant located at 18849 Dixie Highway. The restaurant is scheduled to open Saturday, Jan. 26. Homewood Village President Richard Hofeld will usher in Girl Scout Cookie sales season with an official proclaimation. Annual reports from the Development and Beautification Committees and the Community Relations and Police and Fire Commissions will be acknowledged during the Jan. 22 meeting. It's the same that was approved before but not yet paid out. If my understanding is correct, the village makes the business fulfill certain obligations before they write a check. A small remainder of their full entitlement will come over the next couple of years.   more ›

Homewood PTA Turns 100: On the Agenda

Homewood PTA Turns 100 Mayor Hofeld and the village trustees will recognize the 100th anniversary of the Homewood parent-teacher association. State Extends Local Elections Filing Deadline to 5 PM Dec. 26

The Illinois Senate amends its election code so that candidates in local elections—from City Council to School Board—can submit nominating petitions until 5 p.m. on the day after Christmas.

Merry Christmas, candidates in local elections: You have an extra day to get your name on the April 2013 ballot! A new state law, passed Nov. 29 by both houses of the General Assembly, is also good news to municipal clerks, school board secretaries, township clerks, park district and library secretaries and other local election officials who were previously required to accept candidate petitions until 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, regardless of whether their respective governmental offices were open. The law is effective immediately. Senate Bill 3338 amends Section 1-4 of the Election Code to specify that, for the 2013 consolidated election period, local election officials have until 5 p.m. Dec. 26 to accept candidates' petitions or …

Homewood Seeks Three New Police Cruisers: On the Agenda

A preview of what's going to be discussed and voted on during Homewood's Nov. 13 village board meeting.

Homewood Village President Richard Hofeld and the village trustees will meet at Homewood Village Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Homewood trustees will vote whether to spend $84,876.00 for the purchase of three new Chevrolet Caprice police cars from Miles Chevrolet. Trustees will vote to give  $14,750.00 to Baxter & Woodman, Inc. Consulting Engineers for engineering services for the village's water meter replacement project. American Dance Center owners will request $54,899 through the village's Go Green Reward Program to replace the building's rooftop heating and cooling units with new, energy efficient models. New technology in meters permits meters to be "read" without a meter-reader, and also make monthly billing the norm. I think most of the residents would prefer a monthly bill, rather than that giant thing that appears every 3 months. Manpower savings in not having to "visit" every meter would provide some payback on the expense.   more ›

Sgt. Denise McGrath Promoted To Deputy Chief: On the Agenda

A preview of what's on the agenda for Tuesday night's Homewood Village Board meeting.

Homewood Mayor Rich Hofeld and the Homewood Village Board of Trustees will meet for a regular business meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Sergeant Denise McGrath will be sworn into the office of deputy chief of police at the meeting. Other items on the agenda include the rejection of the water meter replacement bids the village has received and the potential approval of up to $4,507 in tax incentive funds to help repair the roof of Tres Chic Salon and Spa.

Firefighter to Be Honored for 20 Years of Service: On the Agenda

Homewood Village President Richard Hofeld and the village trustees will meet at Homewood Village Hall on Monday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Village President Hofeld and the village trustees will recognize Homewood Firefighter Timothy Cameron Tuesday night for 20 years of service to the Homewood Fire Department. The village board will vote whether to redistribute $50,000 from the Sewer Lining Capital Improvement Program to help pay for the painting of the Homewood water tower located at 18355 Pierce Avenue for a total of $162,900. The contract for the water tower painting will go to Maxcor, Inc. of Lockport, should the board approve the agenda item. The village of Homewood is working in conjunction with the H-F Park District to replace the roof …
