Chicago Heights Mayor Responds to Daughter's Arrest

Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez issued a statement in response to recent charges filed against his daughter following a Homewood arrest.

Monica Gonzalez, 20-year-old daughter of Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, battery and possession of drug paraphernalia following a Nov. 23 incident in Homewood.  Mayor Gonzalez said he was "saddened" by the charges, and actions "certainly inconsistent with the behavior my wife and I have tried to instill in all of our children." The statement continued: Nevertheless, at 20 years of age, Monica is an adult. She is responsible for her own actions.  As the Mayor of the City of Chicago Heights, I stand by the notion that all persons, regardless of your position in life, need to abide by all laws and be accountable if you fail to do so.  READ: Daughter of Chicago Heights Mayor Arrested in …

Farmers Market Motion Will be Revisited

A failed motion by Homewood's Village Board during their March 22 meeting to approve Bensidoun USA as the manager of Homewood's Farmers Market will be revisited, according to Mayor Rich Hofeld.

A failed motion during last Tuesday’s meeting by Homewood’s Village Board to approve Bensidoun USA as the new manager of Homewood’s Farmers Markets will be revisited during the board’s second meeting in April, according to Mayor Rich Hofeld. At least one local Farmers Market vendor is enthused. Kate Duff co-spearheaded her business project, Homewood Kitchen Gardens, two years ago in response to Homewood’s Farmers Market. Duff has participated as a vendor in the Farmers Market during the past two seasons. She was paying special attention to the outcome of last Tuesday’s village board meeting. "What came out (at the meeting) are a lot of the concerns that vendors had,” Duff said. “I felt that Bensidoun answered our questions.” Some of the …

Street Lights and Village Investments

A review of items discussed at the March 21 Flossmoor Village Board meeting.

Main Story: Flossmoor's Village Board voted to remove First Midwest Bank from their approved list of brokers due to an unfavorable collateral agreement that was offered to them. PMA Financial will be added in its place. PMA was chosen due to their direct placement, non-negotiable CD program. The board feels PMA will round out their current mix of brokers. Notice of a Grant Award: A $200,000 grant for central business street lights was awarded to the village on March 1 from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunities. The project, which has been deferred for the last five years due to budget constraints, will be used to erect new energy efficient lighting fixtures and repair fixtures with wiring and/or structural issues.
