IL State Treasurer Visits Homewood

Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford stopped by village hall last Friday to promote awareness of the statewide Cash Dash program.

While many of us were busy stuck in traffic or shoveling driveways last Friday, Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford was at Homewood Village Hall promoting the statewide unclaimed property awareness program. According to Rutherford, there has been a major increase in the success of the Unclaimed Property Division’s (UPD) program, Cash Dash, last year. The program intends to reunite owners with unclaimed property. Currently, the UPD has $1.5 billion in cash, plus contents from Illinois bank safety deposit boxes that have been abandoned for at least five years, according to a press release.  If you would like to check and see if you have any unclaimed property, visit the Cash Dash website. Charter One to be Homewood's New Bank

Homewood's Village Board revisited a failed motion from last month to agree to use Charter One as the village's bank

Homewood’s Village Board approved a contract during their April 12 meeting instating Charter One as their new village bank. This decision comes over one month after a failed first attempt. During the March 9 meeting, Trustee Tom Kataras’ recent poor customer experience poisoned the effort. This meeting, Kataras’ optimism deterred his skepticism. “The relationship has got a ways to go,” Kataras said. “(But) it is just starting and nothing was built in a day, so I’m glad to give these fine folks a chance.” Despite Kataras’ change of heart, Trustee Tienstra, who was absent during the last attempt, is pleased with the relationship that Homewood has with Great Lakes Bank, its current financial institution. “(Great Lakes Bank has) been here …

This week, we are highlighting the area's top 5 fun and free activities for your family. Free Crafts Lakeshore Learning has free crafts for kids on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Some of the upcoming crafts include making a Save the Earth tote bag, a bunny basket and a gift for Mother's Day. Build and Grow Workshop Lowe's offers Build and Grow Workshops for children on Saturdays starting at 10 a.m. You can register your child online for the classes, but a grownup must attend with your child. The first 50 children to register get the class kit, goggles and an apron for free.
