If you’re like millions of Americans, you’re probably going to be uncorking a bottle of bubbly this New Year’s Eve. It’s the uncorking, however, that can potentially poke your eye out and possibly cause blindness, the American Academy of Ophthalmology warns. Improper cork removal can cause serious, potentially blinding injuries, including rupture of the eye wall, retinal detachment, bleeding, dislocation of the lens and damage to the eye’s bone structure. Homewood's New Year's Eve Day celebration tradition continues this year with a special magical guest! All are invited to this free event at the H-F Auditorium from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 31. This year, the Southland's own Mr. D is bringing his magic show to the party. Those who went to Fall Fest may recall his lively performance full of comedic antics and baffling illusions. As per tradition, a mock countdown will begin ten seconds before the stroke of noon, followed by a massive balloon drop. Light refreshments will be provided and photo opportunities will be available.

AGREE! HF is different than it was for us who grew up here, but we all still love it. All areas have changed...the world has changed. I think Butch and Kenny would be unhappy wherever they lived. Criticism should be coupled with suggestions for positive change. Just plain complaining is lazy and comes off as rather dim.   more ›
