The request: Approve the bid from Mold Solutions of Chicago in the amount of $11,430 for mold remediation and reconstruction in the Discovery Center at Irons Oaks. What this means: The Discovery Center at Irons Oaks has had water issues since its construction was completed, according to Irons Oaks Manager Cheryl Vargo. As a result of the water seepage problems at the center, mold has ensued. This contract should alleviate the mold problem. Cake and sparkling grape juice welcomed guests to the H-F Park District’s board meeting on April 19. The concessions were served in honor of Commissioner Peter Camin’s last meeting as a board member. Camin, a seven-year board member and former president, recently lost re-election to Dallas Collins. Under Camin’s presidency of the board, the H-F Park District was honored as a national gold medal award finalist by the National Recreation and Park Association. H-F Park District Executive Director Debbie Kopas clears up recent rumors regarding the H-F Ice Arena and explains why the "Icettes" program will now be run as a private club.
H-F Park District Executive Director Debbie Kopas took time at the beginning of last night’s board meeting to clear up recent rumors and speculations about the H-F Ice Arena. The rumors range from more programming changes to the closing of the arena. “The only change that we are making is to the 'Icettes' program,” said Kopas. “There will still be private lessons, there will still be freestyle ice.” This may come as good news to the H-F Ice Arena parents, as concern that too many changes too soon was expressed as a big issue during last week’s special meeting at the Dolphin Lake Clubhouse. The Main Story: The H-F Park District Board voted in favor of approving a resolution in support Homewood School District 153’s proposed tax referendum during last night’s meeting. “This is something I feel very strongly we should do,” Board President Bob Haderlein said. The tax referendum, which will be publicly voted on during Election Day on April 5, is designed to provide $7.5 million to District 153 by means of a seven-year tax hike for Homewood residents and businesses. District 153 has recently announced that without the referendum's passage, 26 positions will be eliminated, among other significant cutbacks. A multitude of members of the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District converged Tuesday night to prioritize the proposed goals of the upcoming 2011-2012 district budget.
Board members, administrative teams, supervisors and leisure team committee members came together Tuesday night at the Goldberg Center to discuss the 2011-2012 goals and objectives for the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District.
