Sloppy Thieves; Stolen Identity: Flossmoor Police Blotter

Flossmoor police reports: March 7–14.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14 A woman from the 18100 block of Avers Avenue in Flossmoor reported a $1,000 transfer was made from her savings account to her checking account. Purchases were made for $1,004.64 and $204.64 at Walmart, as well as three other purchases, the woman told police. FRIDAY, MARCH 9 After a wallet containing bank information and a Social Security card was stolen from a man from the 800 block of Elm Street in Flossmoor, unauthorized transactions totaling $2,964 showed up on his account days later, according to police. The transactions took place between March 7 and March 9. A man from the 2800 block of Macheath Crescent in Flossmoor reported a check written for $4,000 was cashed on his account. [Update] Flossmoor Police Blotter: Daytime Residential Burglary, Suspicious Garage Fire, Drunk Man Shatters Squad Car Window

Editor's Note (May 11, 3 p.m.): Two changes have been made to the initial publication of this article: SUNDAY, MAY 8 A Flossmoor garage on the 19000 block of Harding Avenue caught fire shortly after 7 p.m., according to a police report. Fire Chief Chris Sewell told police on the scene that the fire appeared to be “suspicious in nature." Police said firemen on the scene observed the front door of the accompanying vacant residence to be wide open and the back window was broken out. Police conducted a neighborhood canvass to no avail, according to the report. Parked in the burning garage was a 1988 Ford Aerostar, which suffered damage from the flames, according to police. Homewood Police Blotter: Juvenile Beaten and Robbed; Stolen Music

Homewood police reports, April 28 - May 1.

SUNDAY, MAY 1 An Indianapolis man’s portable television and disc player combination unit was stolen from his vehicle sometime between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. on the 1300 block of Ridge Road, according to police. Police said the burglar broke the vehicle’s front passenger window to gain entrance to the car and steal the player valued at $1,000. A Homewood juvenile was punched in the face and robbed by a group of six juveniles at 11 p.m. on the 3000 block of 183rd Street on April 30, police said. According to the report, the juvenile victim told police that there have been previous altercations with the lead juvenile offender in the past. Flossmoor Police Blotter: Mother-Daughter Quidditch, Mystery Safe, Faux Polish ID

SUNDAY, APRIL 24 On Sunday afternoon, a Flossmoor man discovered a Honeywell strongbox near the beginning of the bike trail at Cambridge Avenue and Hanover Lane, police said. The safe is described as gray, weighing about two pounds, with damage on one side, according to police reports. The safe's key is missing, and its contents, if any, remain a mystery, police said.  Police said they plan to attempt to open the safe and hope to identify the owner. If anyone has information about this safe, he or she should contact the Flossmoor Police Department. Blind Music-Lover Has Traffic Worries A Homewood music-lover who is legally blind told police he now fears for his safety because of inconsiderate drivers. The man, who says he  walks to local instrument store Melody Mart "several times a week," told police Friday that his walking trips have become more perilous, according to a report. Traffic along Ridge Road and Dixie Highway has intensified and at times, cars veer close to him although he is walking on the indicated pedestrian signal, the man said in a police report. Wednesday, April 13 A youth-sized bicycle was found on the 1000 block of Sterling Avenue, according to police. Monday, April 11 Police said a one-gram bag of marijuana was found on the playground on the 700 block of Elm. The bag was brought to the principal of Flossmoor Hills School, and she turned it over to the police, according to the report. Sunday April, 10 A Homewood woman was bitten on the right buttocks by a dog on the 2600 block of Gordon Drive, according to police. Police said the woman was walking with her 1-year-old son when the tethered dog approached her. Two juveniles were issued citations after police caught them out after curfew at the intersection of 183rd Street and Morris Avenue at 1:30 a.m., according to police. Police said the two juveniles initially tried to evade police but were apprehended. Police said they observed one of the juveniles drop a small bag filled with marijuana during the chase. During the pat-down, police discovered another small bag of marijuana at the feet of the other juvenile, according to the report. Maisha Rowe, 22, of the 17800 block of Tipton, was charged with criminal trespassing and retail theft, accused of stealing a 24-ounce can of Icehouse beer (priced at $1.38) from United Liquors at 10:25 a.m., according to police. Police said Rowe was previously issued a no trespass order for United Liquors on Feb. 10, 2010. Someone stole the front license place of a Glenwood man’s vehicle on the 1200 block of 190th Street between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on March 18, according to police. The report was filed on March 24. Someone broke into a Homewood woman’s home between 9:20 p.m. March 6 and 7:25 a.m. March 7, according to police. Police said the burglar stole a wallet from the kitchen countertop containing various banking and identification cards. Someone stole a Homewood man’s mail-order iPod Touch from his mailbox between 11:10 a.m. and 11:20 a.m., according to police. The stolen iPod is valued at $364.95, according to police. A Homewood woman’s jacket was stolen from Lassen’s Tap sometime between 9:30 a.m. on March 4 and 2 a.m. on March 5. Homewood police pulled over a juvenile in connection with disobeying a stop sign at 191st Street and Center Avenue just after 1 a.m., according to reports. Police discovered a glass pipe with burnt marijuana residue on the floor of the car, according to the report. The juvenile was cited with disobeying a stop sign and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.  Someone broke into a Frankfort woman’s vehicle sometime between 2:30 and 10:40 p.m. Jan. 22 on the 900 block of Maple Road, according to police.
