Halvorson Disagrees With Democratic Candidates on Gun Ban: 2nd District Election
One of the leading candidates going into the Feb. 26 primary election, Halvorson said she would rather see the current laws improved, rather than creating new ones.
Former U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson took a different stance on gun control than other leading candidates in the race to represent the 2nd Congressional District, according to the Chicago Tribune. At the forum at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, many of the candidates gave their take on President Barack Obama’s call for a semiautomatic assault weapons ban. Candidates Robin Kelly and Anthony Beale supported stiffer gun control laws, but Halvorson refused to line up behind the ban. “We’ve buried far too many of our own children over the years—every day," Halvorson said, according to the Tribune.
