A new fishing peer and clubhouse improvements are just some of the improvements the H-F Park District is considering for the 183rd Street and Governors Highway park.
Dolphin Lake may soon be seeing nearly one million dollars in renovations, according to the Sun-Times Media. H-F Park District Director Debbie Kopas says the district has been planning on making improvements to the 183rd Street and Governors Highway location for years now. "With the current economy, all of our capital has been going to infastructure and maintaining our aging facilities," Kopas said in an email. "We're excited to do something that's more fun than infrastructure." The H-F Park District is hoping you will come out on May 4 and help get our local parks in tip-top shape for summer.
May is almost here, and that means it’s time to mark your calendars for the H-F Park District’s annual Park Pride Day. Hundreds of residents will gather at their preferred parks throughout town on May 4 to help beautify our parks for summer use. It’s also a great opportunity to meet neighbors and socialize. Work begins at your favorite park around 8:30 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. with a free lunch provided by local businesses at Irwin Park. All volunteers will also receive a free t-shirt as a thank-you. And for those who really want to step up to the plate, the H-F Park District is looking for park captains to help organize efforts. The recent wet weather is holding up the reseeding of the Willow School Field, after an unknown person(s) went 'off-roading' on the field sometime between April 6-8. The incident left about 13,000 square feet of field damaged.
Following damage to the Willow School Park by vandals who went 'off-roading' on the park's field, Homewood-Flossmoor Park District officials are currently at the mercy of the weather, to get the field back in tip-top shape. After a few hundred dollars worth of damage was done to the field, the recent wet weather has put a delay on reseeding the field, said Parks Foreman Mike Wathen. “There was probably a good $200, $300 worth of damage,” Wathen said. “We're just going to reseed it, once the park dries out. We're just going to take our tractors out there and reseed it.” About 13,000 square feet of the field was damaged by the incident. “They were out there doing doughnuts and things like that,” Wathen said. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is hosting Volunteer Day at Iron Oaks on Saturday, April 13. The event will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is calling all residents to help out in a spring cleaning effort at Iron Oaks. On Saturday, April 13, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Iron Oaks and the park district will host Volunteer Day at the faiciltiy. During the event, residents will take part in a cleaning effort for the spring, including removal of invasive species, collecting native seeds and trail restoration. This event qualifies for service hours for those needing hours for community service. Homewood-Flossmoor area residents take to the stage to perform 'Cinderella' as part of The Stage, the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District's theater program. The play will feature two acts, with two different points of view.
The Stage, the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District's theater program, is gearing up to put on its latest performance in a few weeks, on April 12 at 7 p.m. and 13 at 2 p.m.. That weekend, the program will put on its glass slippers and perform 'Cinderella,' with a cast full of Homewood-Flossmoor area residents. The performance will feature two separate acts, with Act 1 depicting the traditional 'Cinderella' story, while the Act 2 will be a different take on 'Cinderella,' from the step-mother's point of view. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is hosting Nerf Wars on Tuesday, March 26, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Homewood-Flossmoor Auditorium.
Homewood-Flossmoor residents 16 and under should get ready for the ultimate Nerf showdown, as the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District hosts 'Nerf Wars.' The event will be held Tuesday, March 26, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District Auditorium. Beginning at 2 p.m. with the eight and younger division, the event will be broken down by age groups, with each group battling for two hours at a time. Teams are encouraged to dress in battle gear and participants must be at the event prior to their battle time to go over the safety rules. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District will host a flashlight egg hunt at Iron Oaks on Friday night, March 22. Preregistration is required by Thursday, March 21.
Spotting brightly colored eggs hidden—or not so hidden—around Iron Oaks is a tricky task by itself. However, add in the cloak of darkness, some flashlights and the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District and the egg hunt becomes a bit more interesting. On Friday night, March 22, the park district will host a flashlight egg hunt at Iron Oaks, 20000 Western Ave., Olympia Fields. The event will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is open to all children ages 3 to 8 years old. There is a fee of $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is offering $10 off membership to Rover’s Run Dog Park for anyone who adopts a dog between now and July 31. PR Coordinator Bob Birgel said the park district decided to offer the shelter dog special after reading Mayor Richard Hofeld’s offer to personally pay for village licenses for all adopted dogs and cats.
