Help South Suburban Humane Society Win $1,000

The Purina Cat Chow '50 Years, 50 Shelters,' campaign donated $1,000 to the South Suburban Humane Society. Now, the society needs residents' votes in order to possibly receive an additional $1,000.

Purina Cat Chow kicked off its latest campaign '50 Years, 50 Shelters,' in an effort to help cats across the nation in need of shelter space. The program, which is donating a total of $200,000 to shelters nationwide, pegged the South Suburban Humane Society for a $1,000 donation, with a chance at an additional $1,000 through a poll. The contest, which runs now through June 14, is open to all residents and simply asks residents to vote in an online poll at the Purina website. Should the South Suburban Humane Society win the poll, it will receive an additional $1,000 prize. Donated money can be used by the shelter to purchase supplise to better serve the adoptive cats at the shelter. Visit the website for the '50 Years, 50 Shelters,' …

Blondie Is In Town: Adopt Me!

This week’s featured pet is Blondie, a small two-year old pit bull.

Meet Blondie. No, it’s not Debbie Harry. Rather, a smaller-sized two-year-old pit bull terrier mix with a lot of love to give. This pretty baby has had a fairly rough past, so she’ll have to be the only pet in the house, but the folks at South Suburban Humane Society say she’s a playful and energetic pup. Perfect for a home with teenagers. You check out the South Suburban Humane Society website for more info on Blondie and other pets available for adoption.

One Long Latte: Adopt Me!

This week’s featured pet is a Dachshund named Latte.

Meet Latte. He’s a five-year-old chocolate colored Dachshund with an easygoing personality. Latte seems to get along well with other small dogs, but has some issues with stairs—so a ranch might be best for him. If you’re interested in learning more about Latte, check out his profile on the South Suburban Humane Society adoption page. We want to hear about your adopted pets. Help Lorenzo Get A Second Chance: Adopt Me!

This week's featured pet is Lorenzo, one of the dogs rescued from a Dolton dog fight last December.

Meet Lorenzo. He was rescued from a Dolton warehouse after a police raid last December. Sadly, he lost his right eye in a dog fight before police took him to the protective care of the South Suburban Humane Society (SSHS). Despite a rough past, Lorenzo now has a second chance. Lorenzo loves people but, because of his upbringing, it would be best if he was the only animal in the house.  If you want to help give a desserving dog another chance at a better life, check out his listing on the SSHS website. Homewood Mayor Offers to Pay For Your Adopted Pet’s License

Mayor Richard Hofeld wants to share the joy of pet adoption with all residents by covering the $10 licensing fee himself.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of witnessing Village President Richard Hofeld touring around downtown Homewood with his enormous dogs can probably tell he’s got a soft spot for pets. They’re typically labs of varying colors and, most importantly, they’re all former shelter dogs. In the most recent edition of Homewood’s Village Key newsletter, the mayor explains the joy that pet adoption has brought him and his family. In an effort to share that happiness, Hofeld is making an offer to all Homewood residents. “When you adopt a rescue dog or cat, between now and July, I’ll pay for your 2013-14 Village of Homewood dog license, myself.” Want to learn more about pet licensing in Homewood? Check out the village’s webstite. Looking to adopt? …

Old Casey: Adopt Me!

This week’s featured pet is Casey, a six year old cocker spaniel and poodle mix.

Meet Casey.  As far as shelter pets go, he's on the older end of the spectrum. But that’s all the reason more to give this distinguished six-year-old cocker spaniel some much needed love and attention. Casey has already been neutered and is ready to go home with his new family now. Are You There Owners? It's Me Judy: Adopt Me!

This week's featured pet is a one-year-old black lab and pit bill mix named Judy Bloom.

Meet Judy Bloom, the dog. This one and one-half year old black lab and pit bull mix was originally adopted from SSHS as a puppy but her owners couldn’t take care of her anymore and had to return her. Judy Bloom is very affectionate and maintains a very clean living space. She gets along well with other dogs and would love for someone to rub her soft, velvety ears while snuggling. If you’d like to learn more about Judy Bloom, check out her listing on South Suburban Humane Society site. PLEASE VISIT SSHS IN OUR PATCH PLACES DIRECTORY
