Despite several setbacks, the long-anticipated Homewood restaurant is officially opening its doors to the public this Saturday, Jan. 26.
The Cottage On Dixie owners Glenna and Dudley Elvery were kind enough to invite Patch over Monday night to get a sneak preview of the Southland’s newest fine dining experience. It certainly lived up to the hype. The restaurant is scheduled to open to the public for the first time on Saturday, Jan. 26, but don't expect to get in that easliy. General Manager Robert Burt says they've already secured over 200 reservations. If you're anxious to give it a try, he recommends calling at 708.798.8263 to book a table in advance. A preview of Tuesday night’s Homewood Village Board meeting.
Homewood Village President Richard Hofeld and the village trustees will meet at Homewood Village Hall on Tuesday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m. Omnibus Vote Among the items listed in the omnibus vote is a pavement marking bid award not to exceed $104,355.79 and a fire hydrant blasting and painting bid award not to exceed $40,000. Potential New Hair Salon On the Horizon Shantel Houston is requesting a special use permit from the village to open a hair salon on 2010 Elm Road. Should the trustees approve, the new salon will be named Heavenly Hands Hair Studio. Homewood Community Development Director Paula Wallrich says the salon specializes in restorative hair care. Several new details on Homewood’s upcoming fine dining restaurant, The Cottage on Dixie, were revealed by owner Glenna Elvery during Homewood’s June 26 Village Board meeting. READ: Fine Dining Headed for Homewood A general manager, chef and assistant manager have all been hired, according to Elvery, but the names of all three are still under wraps in order to protect the security of their current jobs. The village is well-known for giving out tax incentive money to incoming businesses, but a request in excess of $200,000 from a new fine dining restaurant was grounds for controversy during the June 26 Homewood Village Board meeting.
Homewood's upcoming fine dining restaurant, The Cottage on Dixie, will receive just over $200,000 in TIF incentive money, but not all the trustees are happy about it. The Cottage on Dixie owners Glenna and Dudley Elvery applied for the TIF money through all three of the village's tax incentive programs: Retail Enhancement, Façade and Property Improvement and Go Green. The money is to be distributed among three years, with the first year's distribution amounting to $170,000, and then $21,250 for each of the following two years. Olympia Fields residents Glenna and Dudley Elvery are the force behind Homewood's upcoming restaurant, The Cottage on Dixie.
At the time Patch announced the forthcoming of Homewood’s newest fine dining restaurant, “The Cottage on Dixie,” the owners of the new business remained a mystery. After nearly three months of mild speculation, local philanthropists Glenna and Dudley Elvery have come forward as owners of the anticipated restaurant. Some exciting new places are coming to Homewood, but is this what our community needs?
In a time where vacancies are prevalent and local shops are closing their doors for good, things seem to be looking up for Homewood. Today, we announced the Central Business District will soon be home to a boutique hotel. The hotel would put Homewood in the same league as St. Charles and Geneva—and would make it the only South Suburb with a boutique hotel. On top of that, the old Bakers Square building in the Southgate business district is going to become “The Cottage on Dixie,” a fine dining restaurant, and Chipotle will be moving in on Halsted before the year’s end. All these changes will undoubtedly have an impact on the community, though. Will a chain like Chipotle take away from the local feel here? What will the Central Business …
