Concussions End Flossmoor Soccer Star's Sports Career

Former H-F High School student Emily Oliver is ranked as one of the best college goalies of all time.

Record-setting Stanford senior goalie Emily Oliver of Flossmoor will have to end her college soccer career prematurely, reports the Chicago Tribune.

The 2011 All-America former Homewood-Flossmoor High School student sustained the most recent of many concussions during an Aug. 31 game against Portland. Her career now ends with a school-record goals-against average of 0.36, compared to the previous 2004 Stanford record of 0.45. She also finished no. 3 on the all-time NCAA Division I list, according to the Tribune.

Incredibly, Oliver has yet to lose a regular-season match.

“To have her career cut short … it’s sad,” Stanford goalie coach Jay Cooney said in a Chicago Tribune report.  “But we’re really trying to celebrate what she did in the three-plus years she was able to play, and it’s been remarkable. She set the benchmark for everyone on her team and the players to follow.”
